An interactive session aiming to find lasting solutions to clean energy access for refugees. Providing energy for the growing number of refugee settlements around the world comes at a high cost - for humanitarian organisations, for the users, and for the environment. The current approach, based on short-term grants and donations, is not sustainable. This session explores innovative ways to promote market-based solutions that increase the use of clean energy sources.

Speakers:
- Dean Cooper,  Market Development Manager, SNV
- Sixtus Odumbe, Renewable Energy Advisor, SNV

This session will focus on multi-stakeholder involvement in the NDC (Nationally Determined Contributions) implementation processes in two countries: Kenya and Burkina Faso.

In Kenya, stakeholders from different sectors were able to give valuable contributions to the development of the second National Climate Change Action Plan, which is an important step towards implementation of the NDC. On the other hand, Burkina Faso is in the early stages of NDC implementation, where multi stakeholder involvement offers important opportunities in ensuring sectoral integration, social inclusion and maximised ambition.

- Hellen Kuria, Senior Programme Management Officer, Pan African Climate Justice Alliance

SNV has been leading a sizeable programme in Vietnam that focuses on promoting women's economic empowerment through climate change response interventions. Amongst others SNV’s activities in Vietnam focus on leveraging gender-responsive and climate smart agricultural value chains, building capacity of implementing agencies to integrate gender analysis in climate change policy frameworks and advocating for the integration of a climate change response and regional gender action plan in the Mekong Delta.

In this session, hosted by SNV, a mixed panel of climate change experts from government Ministries and the private and non-profit sector from Vietnam will present cases that show that gender equality and women’s empowerment are not only objectives but also part of the solution to effectively and sustainably achieve NDCs. We will exchange and discuss how gender-responsive approaches to climate smart agriculture and energy contribute to the NDC and how NGOs/CSOs can contribute to this process.

- Dr. Chu Van Chuong, Vice Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam
